Poly-Optic® 14-Series Clear Casting Resins
Water-Clear, UV-Resistant Urethane Casting Resins
Poly-Optic® 14-Series plastics are specifically designed for applications where optical clarity is a must. Castings will be water-clear; however, PolyColor Dyes can be added to obtain clear, colored castings. In addition, Poly-Optic systems can be filled with metal, marble and many other fine powders to achieve myriad effects.
Poly-Optic resins are the plastics of choice for mimicking glass and ice-like features and are widely used to create stunning prototypes (lenses, bottles, containers), as well as unique art, medical models, sculpture and display items.
There is NEW Mercury-Free Formulation now available: Poly-Optic® 1490 Clear Casting Resin
NOTES: Vacuum and/or pressure casting techniques are recommended for these products (pressure casting or vacuum casting equipment is required for Poly-Optic® 1490). Cure inhibition can occur when casting this resin in TinSil® tin-cured silicone rubber molds – use a PlatSil® platinum-cured silicone rubber mold if working with silicone mold rubbers. Polyurethane mold materials can also be used, but a release agent is required (e.g., Pol-Ease® 2300 Release Agent).
View all product options within this series under "Product Options" below:
- Two-part, aliphatic polyurethane resins
- Room temperature curing (RTV)
- Shore Hardness Options: D70-D85
- Water-clear color
- Easily accepts PolyColor Dyes and dry fillers
- Tough and hard, but not brittle
- Reproduces fine detail
- Low shrinkage upon cure
- Can be machined, drilled and sanded
- Non-yellowing formulas (except Poly-Optic® 14-70); however, not recommended for long-term exterior use. Can be sealed with a UV-stable clear coat and/or UV Additive can be added to the lqiuid mixture for longer outdoor use.

|Product||Description||Shore Hardness||Mixed Viscosity||Mix Ratio||Pot Life||Demold Time*||Color|
|Poly-Optic® 1410 Casting Resin||This casting resin cures to a water-clear, virtually unbreakable Shore D80 plastic. Cure Poly-Optic 1410 at room temperature, and for optimum physical properties, post cure at 150°F.||D80||700 cP||3A:2B by weight||15 min.||2 hr.||Water-Clear|
|Poly-Optic® 1411 Casting Resin||Poly-Optic 1411 cures to a super strong, water-clear, D80 plastic. Poly-Optic 1411 develops hardness and can be demolded sooner than Poly-Optic 1410. It also has a higher heat deflection temperature, which is useful in certain prototyping applications.||D80||600 cP||1A:1B by volume||9 min.||30 min.||Water-Clear|
|Poly-Optic® 1411 ES7 Casting Resin||The slower version of Poly-Optic® 1411 Casting Resin designed for thicker/larger volume castings.||D80||600 cP||1A:1B by volume||400 min.||48 hr.||Water-Clear|
|Poly-Optic® 1412 Casting Resin||Poly-Optic 1412 is a high-strength, higher heat resistant temperature, fast-curing, rapid-prototyping, clear plastic designed for casting in heated molds.||D80||750 cP||1A:1B by weight or volume||8 min.||30 min.||Water-Clear|
|Poly-Optic® 1420 Casting Resin||This casting resin cures to a tough, impact- and heat-resistant, water-clear plastic that can be polished and machined. For strong plastic, heat cure at 150°-180°F. A brittle, glass-like, "breakaway" material can be made for special effects applications when left to cure at room temperature (only recommended for casting thicknesses of <0.5").||D85||250 cP||2A:1B by weight||15 min.||8 hr. @ 150°F 30 min. @ 175°F||Water-Clear|
|Poly-Optic® 14-70 Casting Resin||This casting resin cures to a firm, water-clear rubber with a Shore hardness of A70. Blend Poly-Optic 1410 and Poly-Optic 14-70 to achieve any hardness between Shore D85 and Shore A70||D70||340 cP||4A:5B by weight||15 min.||24 – 48 min.||Water-Clear|
|Poly-Optic® 1490 Casting Resin||A mercury-free formula with an easy 1A:1B mix ratio by volume (100A:90B by weight). Must be pressure cast or used with vacuum casting equipment (not vacuum degassing).||D80||690 cP||1A:1B by volume||9 min.||1 hr.||Water-Clear|
*Demold time varies with thickness of casting and the amount of accelerator used.
|Accelerator||Use Poly-Optic 14 Part X Accelerator to increase the speed of curing.|
|Retarder||Add Poly-Optic 14 Part R Retarder to slow the cure of Poly-Optic products. Recommended when casting over 0.5" thickness.|
|Color Dyes||PolyColor Dyes can be used to color Poly-Optic 14-Series plastics. They are available in Black, Brown, Blue, Green, Red, Yellow, and a White and Fleshtone Pigment.|
|UV Stabilizer||Use UV Additive to help reduce the onset of chalking and pitting of Poly-Optic products for exterior applications.|
|Product Life Extender||Use PolyPurge Aerosol Dry Gas to extend product life by spraying it into containers before resealing.|
