Thermoplastic Elastomers (TPE)
Dermasol is a series of soft, thermoplastic elastomers that feature high elongation properties. Thermoplastic elastomers, sometimes referred to as thermoplastic rubbers, are unique in that they combine the physical properties of rubber with the processing advantages of plastic. To mold Dermasol, it is heated to a temperature of ~350°F and then dispensed into a suitable, heat-resistant mold (e.g.,6061 aluminum or aluminum-filled epoxy molds).
Dermasol feels remarkably like human flesh and is especially useful for simulating human/animal tissue and body parts for medical and surgical training.
California Medical Innovations (CMI), a Division of Polytek® Development Corp., has over 35 years of experience in custom formulation and manufacture of Thermoplastic Elastomers and operates in an ISO 9001:2008 registered polymer facility.
CMI can custom compound and formulate Thermoplastic Elastomers to your unique requirements. Dermasol products can be made in any color (including clear) and is available in a variety of durometers. Common end products that are manufactured with Dermasol and customizable properties are listed below.
Dermasol’s unique characteristics make it an obvious choice for medical modeling, special effects, and some custom orthopedic products. Common end products include:
- Medical Models & Surgical Training Aides
- Realistic Body Parts for Prop Making & Special Effects
- Soft Crown Protective Halos and other Protective Parts
- Specialty Casts
Additional raw materials can be added to the Dermasol base mixture to achieve varying final properties. Customizable properties include:
- Color (clear, opaque, translucent, glow-in-the-dark, fluorescent, custom color matching available, etc.)
- Durometer (Shore OO20-A25)
In an industry that thrives on customization, Polytek and California Medical Innovations take great pride in listening to and understanding its customers’ needs. Highly trained technical and laboratory personnel will listen to customer concerns and provide technical solutions. Because we tie our success as a business directly with the success of our clients, we take on projects and systems we know we can deliver with absolute certainty and to the high level of quality our clients have come to expect.
